Former Sixth Form College students Ella Spence and Maddie Jewitt have each been awarded Women into Science (2018) accolades for their achievements at Lancaster University.
Ella and Maddie received the award along with a prize of £600 from tailor and robe maker Ede & Ravenscroft, who supply robes for Lancaster University students during graduation.
The prize aims to draw upon the success of females in science subjects by showcasing their outstanding academic performance.
Ella, who is studying BA (Hons) Mathematics, said: “I am really pleased to win this award as it reflects the hard work I put into my degree and motivates me further to continue making myself and my family proud.
“After I have completed my degree, I want to become an actuary as it is a profession which is predominantly numerical-based and is the type of role I aspire to be in to put my skills into practice.”
Maddie, who is studying MSci (Hons) Natural Sciences, added: “I’m very pleased to have won this award and prize money as I work really hard to get good grades and it’s great that this has been recognised.”
