Our A Level Business tutor Gemma Mahoney has been recognised by Sheffield Hallam University for her work as a teaching mentor.
Gemma received the FE Inspirational Mentor of the Year 2021/22 Award from the university after being nominated by former trainee teacher Kate Archer, who was mentored by Gemma while teaching Economics and Politics during a PGCE post-16 placement at the Sixth Form College.
Gemma collected her award at a special prize giving ceremony and was also part of the Platform Party at Sheffield Hallam University’s main Graduation ceremony.
Kate’s excellent accomplishments while on placement at the Sixth Form College led to her winning Sheffield Hallam University’s Outstanding Achievement on a Certificate in Education course in the Post 16 and Further Education Programme Award.
Gemma said: “It was wonderful to see Kate experiment with new techniques in the classroom, form professional relationships with students and other staff members, and make learning engaging and fun for our Sixth Form students.
“I feel privileged to be able to provide guidance to the next generation of teachers and my experience as a mentor has been invaluable for my own professional development too.”
