Sixth Form students empowered by industry experts

Our Barnsley Sixth Form College students have developed their knowledge of the careers available to them by hearing from experts and industry professionals.

Students had the opportunity to hear from experts across various sectors, with guest speakers from companies such as National Health Service, Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, Barnsley Barbell and South Yorkshire Police.

Through interactive sessions, workshops and talks, participants gained practical knowledge, built connections, whilst developing the skills they need for Higher Education or employment.

The main activity of the week was an interactive workshop by pharmacists Kelly Tyres and Melissa Goodlad, who spoke about all areas of pharmacy and the everchanging career opportunities for a pharmacist.

Kelly, a Lead Clinical Pharmacist for NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, said: “As a pharmacist, it’s important to grow and inspire the next generation of workers. It’s valuable to understand the different career paths available to qualified pharmacists.

“Your time in Sixth Form is a pivotal moment in your life. It’s a time to explore your passions, challenge yourself, and lay the foundation for your future. Remember, the choices you make now will shape the person you become.”

Lucy Evans, Cultural Capital and Personal Development Coordinator at the College, added: “I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has been involved in delivering these sessions to our students.

“Sessions with experts are not only making valuable additions to our students’ skill sets, but also showing them what they could achieve and aspire to be in their careers if they continue to work hard.”
