In an innovative approach to financial education, a group of A Level students from our Sixth Form College recently visited IKEA to gain practical experience in budgeting and financial planning.
This initiative led by Daisy Cockrell, Tutorial Team Leader, aimed to equip students with essential skills for managing their finances as they prepare for university life. Students participated in a miniature quiz based on next steps, university and accommodation.
Throughout the day, students worked in teams to navigate the store, compare prices, and make thoughtful choices. Students had a list of items to find and budget for including bedroom, kitchen, bathroom. This experience not only taught them about budgeting but also highlighted the importance of planning, teamwork, and making informed decisions.
Daisy added: “This trip was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn about budgeting in a real-world setting. It’s crucial for them to understand how to manage their finances effectively, and this experience has provided them with valuable skills that will benefit them throughout their university journey.
“The Sixth Form is committed to providing students with comprehensive education that extends beyond the classroom. Through innovative programs and practical experiences, the College aims to prepare students for successful futures in their chosen fields.”
